Project: Carbon free Kitchens
Sector: Environment, Climate Change, Clean Energy
SET Africa is currently in the final stages to start implementing Carbon Free Kitchen project which aims at accelerating equal access to affordable LPG among women in Tanzania. Clean Cooking is not only an economic, environment and health issue, it is a GENDER issue. According to IEA and AfDB special report, A Vision for Clean Cooking Access for All, millions of women and children are the front-line premature death victims due to inhaling hazardous smoke from traditional stoves and open fires hence the two groups are disproportionately affected hence delibarate actions for just energy transition should priotized.
Project: Mlali Horticulture Innovation and Trade Center (M-HIT)

M-HIT is a rural jobs promotion initiative which provides the opportunity to address some of the fundamental constraints to agricultural growth in Mvomero District. The centre aims to contribute to reduced food insecurity, poverty reduction and building of community and household resilience. M-HIT takes an Agricultural Value Chain Approach including supporting the development of producer associations. The Centre support and complement the entire value chain by supporting farmer households engaged in the identified value chains of horticulture subsector. The initiative has trained 20 young women on vegetables processing and food safety, and they are currently working at the centre. M-HIT in collaboration with the Mlali Village authority has identified women small holder vegetable farmers and working with them to build their capacity for increasing production and access to market. M-HIT has four main components, namely: (i) increase agricultural productivity and production; (ii) improve market-place economic and social infrastructure; (iii) enhance market and trade enabling environment; and (iv) project management and coordination. Project Objectives The development goal of M-HIT is to contribute to reduced food insecurity, poverty reduction and building of community and household resilience. Specific objectives include to: (i) increase agricultural productivity, (ii) increase agro-processing, aggregation and marketing of agricultural produce, and (iii) increase trade in agricultural products. Beneficiaries The project will benefit 150 farming households (about 800 individuals) in the Mvomero District of which 75% are women and young girls.


Project: Strengthening Women Cooperatives for Impact (WomenCooP)
Sector: Women Economic Empowerment, Gender Equity
Worldwide Cooperatives proven to have positive social and economic outcomes for its members. Cooperatives are creating jobs and increasing income for members, improving livelihoods through the provision of basic services, and boosting women's leadership and management experiences. Through Strengthening Women Cooperatives for Impact initiative (WomenCoop), SET Africa is working to strengthen women cooperatives in Tanzania as a platform to investing in women for impact. Women Cooperatives Project works to enhance the participation of women in food value chain in an effective manner. Some of the services we provide include relevant training and business skills development, leadership skills, thereby improving their productive capacity and incomes. We have so far supported 13 women cooperatives in Kigoma, Morogoro and Simiyu. The goal is to have at least 10 strong cooperatives in each region of Tanzania Mainland.
Project: ELEVATE-Women and Youth in Trade Accelerator
Sector: Trade and Enterprise Development
ELEVATE is working to address barriers deterring female and youth entrepreneurs to competitively participate in both local and global markets. At ELEVATE we provide technical assistance related to entrepreneurial ecosystem support services including provide training, networks, mentoring, business formalization, legal services, market access, reputation and fundraising support. The Accelerator serves women and youth entrepreneurs across all sectors offering them tailored business support services derisking and upgrading them into inventors' ready status allowing them to unlock their full potential and thrive. ELEVATE act as a link between women/youth suppliers and buyers/investors from both public and private sectors.
